Silence in the City is James Bowman’s first publicly offered book of poetry and photography. Silence explores the feeling of stillness that fell on Durham, NC from the beginning of quarantine until just before the social justice protests ripped us all from our homes.

Listening to the Silence

I am looking at my sheets
rumpled on the bed,
used but white,
stained with my scent.

Chain-smoking to The Chainsmokers

Do you belong here?
Rumpled in my bed,
barricaded brown eyes,
mixed with my scent.

Drinking vodka to Satine

We waste on the sofa -
rumpled slouch,
safely burning red,
separate fading scent.
